RedBull SkateMASS

July 24, 2010 | Snowmass, CO

Article & Photography by Matt McDonald & Tyler Bray.

We recently took time out to cruise up to the high country and dive into the skate scene in and around Aspen, CO.   Red Bull skate the Mass gathered local and nationally recognized skaters to jam at the Snowmass Skate Park.  Even with near blue bird conditions baking heat on the raw concrete,  skaters of all levels threw down to earn a title.

The inspiring community platform here welcomed  all levels to compete in their respective age class.  The youth class came out fearless, pioneering drops and leading lines.

Despite the geographic location here in Aspen, the family & community support is actively dedicated to contributing to the scene and showing signs of a healthy thriving skate culture.

The pool of talent was highly skilled and diverse.  Technical skaters, stylish smooth operators and riders with bombs did not make it an easy decision for the judges.  Only consistency appeared to be the definitive  element in the end.

Veteran members of the community overseeing the contest hung on every move.  Much respect to the residing emcee, Travis McLain of Radio Boardshop, for holding down the mic for the duration of the jam.  Calling it on the spot non-stop and running the show.

Youth Class Champion Jack Coyne

Advanced Class Champion Jeff Wexley.

Big ups to Red Bull and all the supporting sponsors that made the 2nd skateMASS a success.  It’s inspiring to see generations unite and give to the next what some of us didn’t have back in our day.  Leaving the jam we were blessed with yet another classic Colorado sunset.
